had been used almost 100 years earlier by a Belgian mystic Berthe Petit
(1870–1943), a Franciscan Tertiary who was attested to being a piuos woman and who was never accused of wrongdoing.
Verbard, however, was a criminal, was arrested and jailed 15 years in February 2008 for attacks on children aged nine and 13.
On April 27, 2009 Juliano Verbard escaped by helicopter from the Domenjod Prison near Saint-Denis
on the island of Réunion. Three armed accomplices, posing as tourists, hijacked a helicopter and landed in the exercise yard of the prison. He escaped with two followers, father and son duo, Alexin Jismy and Fabrice Michel aboard, took off and then landed in a nearby clearing where a van was waiting. He was recaptured on May 6, 2009.
