South Park Primary School is a primary school located in Ilford
in the London Borough of Redbridge
. The headteacher is currently Debbie Keigwin, formerly headmistress of Wellington Way Primary School in nearby Tower Hamlets
. She was appointed to the position in 2009 after the departure of Douglas Rae; he had taught at the school since 1992, before becoming headteacher in 2001. The school is notable for being one of the oldest and largest primary schools in the borough; it was opened in January 1908, and centenary celebrations were held in 2008.
Its catchment area covers a large part of the southern area of Redbridge and some areas of the surrounding boroughs, and the school has a large intake with nearly 800 pupils on roll. Ofsted
has recently described it as a good school, where "personal development is outstanding" and "behaviour is exemplary".
Formerly comprising two distinct departments, named South Park Junior School and South Park Infant School, these were amalgamated into their present form in 2000, celebrated with a party involving all the staff and pupils. A poem was specially written for the event by former pupil Pauline Stewart.
