In 1974, the family of John T. South III, currently the chancellor of South University, acquired the institution and changed its name to Draughon’s Junior College. In 1986, the school became South College, and in 2001 the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Licensing, accreditation and memberships

South University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, and associate degrees (www.sacs.org).

The Savannah campus is approved for training veterans and other individuals by the State of Georgia Department of Veterans Services, State Approving Agency, Atlanta, Georgia.
