Southampton University Boat Club

Southampton University Boat Club (SUBC) has no definite founding date, and although the earliest evidence of the club to be found existed in 1904, it was not registered as a club with British Rowing until 1929. SUBC is a member of the University of Southampton
's Student Union with over 40 members and attracting over 20 new members every year. The boathouse is situated on the River Itchen

. When not training in the Jubilee Sports Center found at the University of Southampton
the rowers will most likely be enjoying a drink at Clowns & Jesters. The club is currently sponsored by KPMG

s throughout the academic year (September - August). Prior to Christmas the club's main focus is the Bristol Head Race. This event provides developing crews with the academic year's first taste of inter-university competition and the beginner crews with the first chance to apply what they have learnt in race conditions. The club also sends its athletes to the National Indoor Rowing Championships

After Christmas, the club enters a number of events during the continuing head season. These include BUCS Head and a Varsity match against the University of Portsmouth Boat Club. After this other events in which include Reading Head, BUCS Regatta, Henley amongst others.

The Women's Senior squad is currently coached by Mike Beresford, a former European Silver Medalist, Commonwealth Gold Medalist and Olympic finalist in the 1960 Rome Olympics, as well as a several time winner of various events at Henley Royal Regatta. He is still occasionally seen in his single scull.
