. It was originally proposed as a subspecies of the eastern lesser bamboo lemur and is of similar size. However, it is darker and redder than the Eastern Lesser Bamboo Lemur, with a shorter tail and different vocalizations. The type locality is Mandena, and it is believed to inhabit moist lowland and montane forests.
