In 1988, The Rouse Company
acquired the mall from its previous owners. A food court
called the Picnic Garden opened in 1993. The mall's on-site theater closed in 1999 and was later replaced with Borders Books & Music. Hudson's was renamed Marshall Field's
in 2001 and Macy's
in 2006. Later in 2006, Mervyns exited Michigan and vacated its anchor in the mall. Best Buy
subsequently moved into the mall in 2007, supplanting the food court.
