History

Southwest Miami High School was founded on September 1956 as Southwest Miami Junior-Senior High School. The school was built to alleviate overcrowding at neighboring schools Miami High School, and Coral Gables High School

. Featuring grades 7-10, the school eventually converted to a high school in 1959 upon graduating its first senior class. Southwest is currently an A school.

Athletic achievements

In the year 2008 the schools Football Varsity team won the District Championship for the first time in school history; defeating Coral Park, Sunset, Braddock, Varela, and Ferguson High schools, all thanks to the effort of the team and coaches, since they had no school support. Cross Country also made it to states in 2007 and 2008 coming in 16th place in the state of Florida (2008)
