The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.95.
In the village the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 18.1% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 27.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.4 males.

On March 27, 2007, this school made national headlines after an orgy involving four fifth-grade pupils occurred in an unsupervised classroom. The sexual activities were conducted in plain view of the other classmates, and led to four felony arrests for "obscenity." Another student, who served as a "lookout", was charged with "being an accessory to a crime."
