The annual payroll and benefits amounted to $734 million in fiscal year 2009. Spectrum Health is Aa3 rated by Moody’s Investors Service, placing it among only 40 health care systems in the country to receive this high rating. Spectrum Health System is recognized as one of the Top 50 Integrated Health Care Networks in the United States.

History

Spectrum Health was formally incorporated on Sept. 19, 1997, bringing together the resources of Butterworth Health System and Blodgett Memorial Medical Center. It became the largest and most comprehensive health care organization in West Michigan. Years of planning and a high-profile legal battle had led to this historic day. In August 2000, Richard C. Breon was hired to lead the organization as CEO. Breon worked quickly to form an integrated health care system.

The Spectrum Health Medical Group employs more than 90 physicians and mid-level providers, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Spectrum Health also has a multispecialty physician group (mmpc), which has more than 300 health care providers serving patients in more than 30 specialties.
