The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) is the primary law enforcement agency servicing 122,397 people within 412 square miles (1,067.1 km²) of jurisdiction within Spotsylvania County, VA.

Organization

The agency is currently headed by Sheriff Howard D. Smith.
  • Patrol Division This includes: K-9 Unit, Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Unit, Ground Search and Rescue, Dive Team, Traffic Unit, Bicycle Patrol Unit, and Lake Patrol.
  • Professional Standards Division The duties of the PSD include: Recruitment and Employment, Accreditation, Internal Affairs Investigations, and Training.
  • Crime Prevention The programs include: Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, Crime Solvers, and TRIAD.
  • Cadet Division The SCSO Cadet Division is a program that allows teenagers to learn and gain experience in the field of law enforcement. They have training courses, support community events, and once training is competed, they can ride with a deputy around Spotsylvania County.

Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division handles the assignment, closure and filing of all criminal cases for all divisions within the Sheriff’s Office.
