Patrol Division

Patrol is the uniformed component of the police department. It provides 24 hour, 7 day response to calls for service. The average shift consists of 1 Sergeant and 4 to 6 patrol officers. Services include traffic law enforcement, report taking, preliminary investigation, selected follow-up investigations, accident investigation, response to public disorder complaints. Calls for service are prioritized based upon the seriousness and immediacy of a threat to life or property of the reported incident.

The Patrol Division is made up of a number of special teams including:
  • Communications
  • Community Services
  • Traffic & MAIT Team
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Canine Unit (K-9)
  • Animal Control
  • School Resource Officers

SWAT Team

Special Weapons and Training/Negotiations Team: Made up of 19 department members who apply to serve on this team, members are trained in crises intervention, building entry and the use of special weapons. 3 of the members are negotiators. The team is deployed for the service of high risk search warrants, or any situation where suspects are likely to be armed and dangerous. The team trains once a month and training consists of firearms, physical agilities or scenarios.
