, the township has a total area of 60.0 square miles (155.5 km²), of which, 59.8 square miles (155.0 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²) of it (0.37%) is water. The village of Normalville (which is part of Springfield Twp.) was originally named Elm PA. In the late 1800s a Normal Teaching School was built close to the site of the present day Springfield Elementary school. Following the building of the Teacher School the town was renamed Normalville.

The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.
