History

Sri Kuala Lumpur Primary School was established, in January 1979, by Tan Sri Dato' Ir Othman Merican in Jalan Nipah, Kuala Lumpur. There was an initial enrolment of six students. In August, the school moved to Jalan Anak Gasing. Enrolment had increased to 100 by January 1980 and over 300, 12 months later when it moved to Jalan Ampang. Further moves occurred in December 1984, to Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya and, finally, in January 1986 to Subang Jaya, Selangor. The secondary school was opened in 1987. In 2007, the Education Minister, Dato Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein delared the new facilities block open. On the first day of school, 4 January 2010, Year 1 & 2 have started the Cambridge System for learning. Secondary students starting Form 1 in 2010 now have the choice of studying the government (KBSM) or Cambridge systems.

Syllabus

Primary students in Year 1 and 2 are not using the government KBSR syllabus to avoid the new guidelines for teaching all subjects in Bahasa Malaysia except English. Instead, they are using the Cambridge Primary Syllabus. The government syllabus will be phased out by the school in the future. The secondary students still have a choice of studying the government KBSM or the Cambridge O-Level syllabus. The advantage of studying the O-level syllabus in school is that the language used in teaching is English, not Bahasa Malaysia that is currently used by the government KBSR and KBSM syllabus. All students wanting to enter the O-Level syllabus must go through a 2.5 hour entrance examination which comprises a Paper on English ( 1.5 hours ) and another Paper for Mathematics ( 1 hour ) and must achieve an average score of at least 60% and a good score in English. All O-Level students still follow Malaysian semesters and holidays and still taught Bahasa Malaysia. Students will also have to sit for the Malaysian government SPM for Bahasa Malaysia only and a special certificate will be issued for them. Other subjects will follow the Cambridge Examination Board guidelines and exams.

Smart school

The school introduced the smart school concept, in the primary section during 1999. The secondary school was declared a 'smart school' by the Minister of Education, Tan Sri Musa Muhammad in June 2000.

ICT Facilities

Sri Kuala Lumpur has 5 air-conditioned computer labs in total for the use of the primary school students, 3 of which are Mac-based and the remainder Windows-based. There are 3 labs for secondary school students, 2 of them Mac-based and 1 Windows-based. The school is networked with password protected broadband. Computer lessons are conducted at least 2 times a week for the primary school students and once a week for the secondary school students. The school has dedicated teachers and textbooks for their own ICT syllabus. Topics taught include using Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office X, iWeb, iMovie, and coding, in both HTML and Visual Basic.

Class Facilities

All classes are air-conditioned. Each class has a whiteboard, message board and 2 push-pin boards, one at the front right side and one at the back. Cambridge classes and KBSM Form 5 classes have additional facilities, Promethean Activboards, SMART boards and Epson Multimedia Projectors. Teachers and students use these boards for presentations and interactive teaching. Each class can hold a maximum of 30 students. Teachers have a remote control and a ActivPen for their use. The staffroom is well stocked with teaching materials, and iMacs for use. Each department has a MacBook each to assist in teaching.
