The team played its first season in 1978 in the National Soccer League
(NSL), later re-named the (CNSL, with the acceptance of the Winnipeg Fury in 1993. From their formation through to 1994 they was known as (the) St. Catharines Roma. In 1995 they underwent restructuring and changed their name to St. Catharines Wolves. 1996 saw further changes and a change name to St. Catharines Roma Wolves, and the following summer was their last in the dissolved NSL. The club next played from 1998 through 2005 in the Canadian Professional Soccer League
, which in 2006 was renamed the Canadian Soccer League. They continue to play in the CSL.
