In 1919, SH 13 was completely reassigned to a small segment traveling due west from Amarillo to New Mexico on the route that would later be U.S. Highway 66; the eastern portion of the future US 66 route was added by 1922.

In 1926, US 66 was overlaid on the entire SH 13 route; the routes were marked concurrently, by 1933, the routing had been pulled back to its Amarillo-Endee segment, and by 1939 SH 13 was canceled, and has never been reassigned.
