It runs southeast from Rutherford County
toward Chattanooga
and then northeast from there to Loudon County. As nearly the entire route is overlain by U.S. Highways, the designation "Tennessee Route 2" is very seldom used by the general public; the only exception would be where a small portion of it parallel to Interstate 24
near Kimball, Tennessee
