Statehood Day is a holiday that occurs every February 15 in Serbia
to commemorate the outbreak of the Serbian revolution
against Ottoman rule. The revolution ultimately resulted in the recognition of Serbia's statehood by Ottoman Empire (formally in 1817, de jure in 1830).
In response to the slaughter of Serbian nobleman (Massacre of the Serbian knights)
, the Serbia people revolted against the occupying Ottoman Empire
, and for the first time in over 300 years of Ottoman occupation, established the National Assembly of Serbia
