Together with Oslo Cathedral School, Stavanger Cathedral School has been known for being one of the few elite schools in Norway, with high academic performance and also a vibrant student community. The students at Stavanger Cathedral school have also been known for being very politically active, and it has been said that it is a "red" school because of the left side politics that have been especially popular at the school. The school also has a growing international help project called International Solidarity, that does fund raising for Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut
