St James’ Church is situated at the north end of the village just above the River Rother. The original church was built circa 1040, however not much of this is left. The upper parts of the church are dated circa 1673. The church is mentioned in the Domesday Book
. The churchyard contains a yew tree which is thought to be over 2500 years old.
Stedham's watermill at the north end of the village was used for manufacturing blotting paper.
The late media tycoon, Kerry Packer, caused controversy in the late 1980s when he bought many acres of agriculture land in Stedham and converted it in to a polo centre.
The village has a garden centre, primary school, social club and one pub which is also a Thai restaurant. The village shop closed in 1991.
