Steel City Cup
Encyclopedia
The Steel City Cup was a pre-season "friendly competition" played between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United annually for four years between 1993 and 1996. Wednesday only entered a reserve team in 1996, as they concentrated on their preparations for the new Premier League campaign and this proved to be the catalyst for the Cup's demise. The 1993 game also doubled up as a testimonial for Derek Dooley.
