Steve Lopez is an American
mixed martial artist
who competes in the lightweight
division. A professional MMA competitor since 2007, Lopez had made a name for himself mainly fighting nobodies in the Midwest. He most commonly known for his two fight stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC).
, stepping in as a replacement fighter. He lost to Top 10 lightweight fighter, Jim Miller
. The fight was ended after Lopez dislocated his left shoulder with the bone protruding from the top of his shoulder. After successfully having shoulder surgery, Lopez was cleared to fight, a year after his fight with Miller.
Lopez was defeated by Waylon Lowe
at UFC 119
. The fight was closely contested and one of the judges awarded the fight to Lopez; however, the other two judges awarded the fight to Lowe, making him the winner via split decision. He was released from the promotion after his 0-2 stint. For the fight Lopez moved his training base from Midwest Martial Arts in Indiana to Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas.
