Stephen 'Steve' Redmond (born November 2, 1967 in Liverpool
) is a former English
footballer, who played as a central defender.
Redmond was captain of the Manchester City
youth team that won the FA Youth Cup
in 1986
. He subsequently became the first team's youngest ever captain (a record which was not broken until 2007, by Micah Richards
) and was voted player of the season in 1988.
He was also captain of the England under-21 team
. He played for Man City a total of 235 times and scored seven goals. In August 1992 he transferred to Oldham Athletic
, and later played for Bury F.C.
and Leigh RMI.
Redmond's son, Daniel, is a member of Wigan Athletic
