The wingspan
is 5–6 mm. Adults are on wing from April to May and again from July to August. There are two generations per year.
The larvae feed on Fagus sylvatica and Fagus sylvatica orientalis. They mine the leaves of their host plant. The mine consists of a rather wide corridor that often crosses a vein, and mostly runs from somewhere near the leaf margin in the direction of the midrib. The first part of the mine is relatively narrow, with a narrow central frass line. The following section is wider. In the final section the frass lies somewhat more irregular and concentrated in a narrow central zone.
