History

Stowgate grew up around one large farm, known as Stowgate Farm, the farm-house of which is still in existence. After the war it was divided into several smaller farms, which were intended to provide housing for people who had worked contributing to the war effort, so giving them land to on which to grow their own food. These farms still exist today.
