Stratton (crater)
Encyclopedia
Stratton is a lunar
impact crater
on the Moon
's far side. It is located to the north of the large craters Keeler
and Heaviside
, and less than one crater diameter to the south of Dewar
.
As with many craters on the Moon, this feature has become worn and eroded due to a multitude of subsequent impacts of various sizes. The most prominent of these is a small, cup-shaped impact along the southwestern outer rim. The remainder of the rim has been worn down, forming an uneven shoulder about the interior depression. The interior floor has a small ridge near the mid-point, but is otherwise unremarkable.
Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

Impact crater
In the broadest sense, the term impact crater can be applied to any depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body...

Keeler (lunar crater)
Keeler is a large lunar crater that lies on the Moon's far side. It is connected along the eastern edge to Heaviside, a walled plain of similar dimensions. Keeler, however, is the younger of the two formations, with more clearly delineated features...

Heaviside (lunar crater)
Heaviside is a large lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon. It is attached to the eastern rim of the equally large walled plain Keeler, although Keeler is somewhat less eroded...

Dewar (crater)
Dewar is a lunar crater that lies on the Moon's far side. Less than one crater diameter to the south-southwest is the crater Stratton. Vening Meinesz is a little over one crater diameter to the northwest. The slightly worn rim of this crater is roughly circular, with a small outward protrusion...

Satellite craters
By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Stratton.Stratton | Latitude | Longitude | Diameter |
