She studied Fine Art at Newcastle University after first completing her
foundation course at Carlisle College of Art. In 1977 Sue completed a
Post-Graduate degree in Textiles at Edinburgh University, and an M.A. at the
Royal College of Art
in 1979. She was made a Visiting Professor of the RCA
in 2000, and an Honorary Fellow of the RCA in 2006.
