His father, Raja Muda Musa Ibni Almarhum Sultan Jaafar Muazzam Shah, became the Raja Muda of Perak in 1919 during the reign of his brother-in-law, Sultan Alang Iskandar Shah (Marhum Kadasallah) Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Mushiddul-Adzam Shah (Marhum Keramatullah). He became the 31st Sultan of Perak in 1938 succeeding Sultan Alang Iskandar Shah.

Death

He died at Lumut Rest House on 29 March 1948, aged 60. He was given the post-humous title of Marhum Nik'matullah and was succeeded by Sultan Yusuf Izzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Jalil Radziallah Shah.
