She is a Latter-day Saint and started acting in Junior High School, and later went on to play her first lead roles while attending Hillcrest High School in Midvale, Utah. The Summer after graduating high school, she was employed as an musical entertainment performer at Lagoon Park in Farmington, Utah. She received a BFA in music, dance, theatre from Brigham Young University
. She was also a member of BYU's Young Ambassadors
for three years.
Summer appeared in “Hollywood Sings,” a musical review at the Fireside Theater in Wisconsin, where she performed nine shows a week.
She has also been in Chicago's musical production of "Wicked."
