There are several classes
  1. mutation within the same gene
    • e.g. second frameshift that occurs near the first one
  2. mutation within another gene (extragenic  mutation)
    1. that restore the function of the original mutated gene
    2. that results in the production of a protein that replaces the mutated one
  3. intergenic mutation.
