She was born Lady Susan Katherine Waldegrave, the fifth and youngest daughter of the 12th Earl Waldegrave
. On 25 April 1959 she married Marmaduke Hussey

) and they had two children, James Arthur (born 15 August 1961) and Katherine Elizabeth (born 1 February 1964).
Her husband was created a life peer
as Baron Hussey of North Bradley in 1996.
