Ice hockey
Ice hockey, often referred to as hockey, is a team sport played on ice, in which skaters use wooden or composite sticks to shoot a hard rubber puck into their opponent's net. The game is played between two teams of six players each. Five members of each team skate up and down the ice trying to take...

, consisting of 57 teams. The top teams of the league earn the right to take part in the Kvalserien qualification, where the two top teams are promoted to the HockeyAllsvenskan. The Division 1 originally was the second highest-level league in Sweden, but since 1999 it is the third highest-level league in Sweden.

At present there are six geographically constituted leagues: Division 1 A, B, C, D, E and F. At mid-season the top four teams in each league form three new leagues called Allettan Norra (North), Mellan (Middle) and Södra (South). The word "Allettan" is a paraphrase of the older typical first league name "Allsvenskan", which means "the All Swedish (league)". The word "etta" means (number) one, referring to the division being Division 1.

While these teams play these Allettan leagues, the remaining teams in each original Division 1 league play a continuation league for their respective division, more known as a Spring league. The two last teams in each league play a similar qualification leaguewith Division 2 teams to stay in Division 1.

The four best teams in the Allettan leagues, and the winners of the continued Division 1 leagues, play three play off rounds in order to battle for four spots in the Kvalserien
Kvalserien (HockeyAllsvenskan)

qualification league for the second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan. The three winners of the Allettan leagues, and the best one of the second-placed Allettan teams, go directly to Play Off 3 while the remaining second-placed Allettan teams go directly to Play Off 2. The third and fourth placed Allettan teams start out playing Play Off 1, facing the winners of the Spring leagues. The teams from the northern Allettan face the winners of the northern leagues A and B, the teams from the middle Allettan the winners from C and D, and the teams from the southern league the winners of E and F. The six winning teams from Play Off 1 are ranked after their league positions, points and goal difference

, and the two top-ranked of them together with the two second-placed Allettan teams face the remaining Play Off 1 winners in Play Off 2. The automatically qualified teams for Play Off 3 face the winners in Play Off 2.

There is no system that picks out the specific opponents for the Play Off 2 and 3 teams; they are picked out by drawing of lots. Each Play Off series is a best-of-three series, where the teams that win two games advance to the next Play Off round. The four Play Off 3 winners and the two last teams in the HockeyAllsvenskan play the qualification league for the next season of HockeyAllsvenskan.
