Following the 1982 release of the feature film Conan the Barbarian an influx of cheaply made fantasy films with similarly bare chested protagonists and scantily clad damsels in distress were released that came to be derisively referred to as "Sword & Sorcery
" largely to cash in on the popularity of the film. The movies also include wizardry or paranormal powers of some kind; hence, the "sorcery" part.
