Sydbank A/S is Denmark's fourth-largest bank
with headquarters in Aabenraa
. Sydbank was founded in 1970 with the merger of four local banks based in Southern Jutland

in Copenhagen and merged that year with the Aarhus Bank - and in 1984 with Fuen Bank, Co-established bank with a branch in Flensburg and subsidiary SBK-Finance. In 1985 came a branch in Hamburg.
In 1987 founded Sydbank Investment branch Sydinvest and the bank took over parts of the Copenhagen 6th July Bank, which had gone into receivership in March of that year. In 1988 took over Sydbank Community Bank branches in Copenhagen. In 1989 bought Sydbank DMK-Holding.
The bank went out of the 1980s with a market share of just 2 percent., 70 branches and 1,400 employees.
Sydbank took Odense Bank Egnsbank Funen during 2002 and has since established branches in central Jutland and Sealand. Moreover Sydbank opened in 2002 daughter bank Sydbank (Schweiz) AG in St. Gallen in Switzerland. In 2007 sold Sydbank DMK-Holding to ebh bank and opened a department-ment in Kiel. In 2008 took over Sydbank Zealand Banking Trelleborg, headquartered in Slagelse.
Sydbank is now Denmark's fourth largest bank based in Southern Jutland and headquartered in Aabenraa. The Bank has a market share in the sector at around 7 percent, approximately 2,600 employees and 115 branches - including three in Germany.
The Executive Director since 1982 Carsten Andersen. The Board is in addition to Carsten Andersen: Karen froze, Preben Lund Hansen and Allan Nørholm.
Sydbank board consists of: President Kresten Philipsen, Vice Chairman Donald Thoustrup, Otto Christensen, Peder Damgaard, Peter Gaemelke, Hanni Toosbuy Kasprzak, Sven Rose Meyer Paulsen, Per Olesen (elected by employees), Jan Uldahl-Jensen (elected by employees), Margaret Weber (elected by the employees) and Harry Max Friedrichsen (elected by employees).
Among others poured SydbankFonden in 2008 bronze sculpture "myth" - inspired by myth about Christian II, who according missing a finger created a groove in a board during captivity in Sønderborg-castle Castle - to Sønderborg Municipality.

When completing the Varde Bank took over Sydbank with effect from 1st January 1994 most of the bank's activities, including 30 West Jutland departments. Sydbank Music Prize
In 2008 indstiftede SydbankFonden "Sydbank Music Prize", which is one of the largest awards for classical music. Besides a winning 50,000 dollars in each of the five regional orchestras are one of the winners even 100,000 dollars in the nationwide competition. Sydbank development
- 1970 Sydbank formed by the merger of the North Schleswig People's Bank Graasten Bank Folkeban-ken of Als and Sundeved and Barrels Farmer Bank.
- 1976: The Bank has 50 branches in South Jutland and crosses for the first time Kongeåen with the opening of an office in Fredericia.
- 1983: Sydbank opens at Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen and merges with Aarhus Bank.
- 1984: Sydbank merges with Carl Bank and establish department in Flensburg and subsidiaries bet SBK-Finance.
- 1985: The bank opens a branch in Hamburg.
- 1987: Sydbank founder Investment Sydinvest and take over parts of Copenhagen 6th July Bank has gone into receivership in March of that year.
- 1988: Sydbank acquires Joint Bank branches in Copenhagen.
- 1989: Bank buys DMK-Holding.
- 1990: Sydbank merger with Savings Bank Jutland.
- 1994: Sydbank takes over at 1 January most of Varde Bank, including 30 Jutland departments. The same year, the bank buys Bank Asset and thus 40 East Jutland departments from Topdanmark.
- 2002: Bank takes over Egnsbank Fyn and opens subsidiary bank Sydbank AG in St. Gallen in Switzerland.
- 2007: Sydbank sells DMK-Holding to ebh bank and opens a branch in Kiel.
- 2008: Bank takes over Sealand bank Trelleborg with headquarters in Slagelse.
