Synergy is a corporation
owned by the Government of Western Australia
. It, Verve Energy, Horizon Power and Western Power were created in 2006 as a result of the breakup (disaggregation) of Western Power Corporation. The corporation's official legal name is the "Electricity Retail Corporation". Synergy is Western Australia’s largest energy retailer with approximately 900,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers, generating total annual revenue of more than $1.5 billion.
Synergy supplies customers connected to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) covering the area from Kalbarri in the north down to Albany in the south and east to Kalgoorlie. It sells electricity to residential and business customers, as well as gas to large scale business customers. Synergy has a legislated monopoly on the sale of electricity to residential and other customers who do not consume a large amount of electricity. Horizon Power supplies energy to WA customers outside the SWIS.
The primary activities of Synergy include energy trading (purchasing), marketing, sales and customer service, billing and payment processing. The business operates a dedicated contact centre and a limited outbound teleservices group. In addition, Synergy services major customers’ needs through a diversified team of account managers.
Synergy also sells accredited renewable energy in the form of its NaturalPower and EasyGreen products, carbon neutral electricity in the form of its EarthFriendly product and provides a range of energy management services to its customers.
