São João do Paraíso is a city in the northeast of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais
. In 2007 its population was estimated to be 21,839 in a total area of 1,921 km².
The city belongs to the mesoregion of Jequitinhonha
and to the microregion of Salinas
. The elevation of the municipal seat is 780 meters. It became a municipality in 1943. This municipality is located north of the Rio Pardo and forms a boundary with the state of Bahia
. It is crossed by the Rio São João, a tributary of the Rio Pardo.
