 platforms. TVNZ 6 was on air daily from 6AM to 12 Midnight.

The name TVNZ 6 was chosen because it was numeric, was deemed to allow 'a broader content structure than any descriptive title', and matches the number assigned to it on the Freeview electronic programme guide.

TVNZ 6 Kidzone

TVNZ 6 showed pre-school programs during the block Kidzone from 6am-6pm. Now TVNZ 7 shows Kidzone from 6am to 8 am. Kidzone is also going to get a 24 hour channel on Sky TV called Kidzone24. The channel then played family programmes after Kidzone until closedown at midnight.

Previously

At the very start of TVNZ 6's launch the public service channel had originally structured its daily schedule as 3 separate services titled: TVNZ Kidzone (which had run from 6am to 4:00), TVNZ Family (4:00 to 8:30) and TVNZ Showcase (8:30 to midnight - while TVNZ 6 had closed down at midnight to 6am).

Closure

TVNZ 6 ceased broadcasting on February 28, 2011 to be replaced on March 13, 2011 by TVNZ U, a "social" channel targeted at 15–24 year olds. Kidzone, Shortland Street
