Tagum National Trade School
Encyclopedia
Tagum National Trade School, also referred to by the acronym TNTS, is a technical and vocational school situated at Brgy. Apokon , Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Philippines

History

Tagum National Trade School owed its emergence from the Hon. Lorenzo P. Sarmiento, who was the lone congressman from Davao del Norte in 1972. He had envisioned the need to open a vocational school in this part of the province as an answer to the cry of the low-income group who could not avail of the high cost of secondary education. The active congressman worked out for the establishment of the school as reflected in his bill- REPUBLIC ACT 5986.

The opening of a trade school in the then municipality of Tagum was indeed a timely move for the populace not only because of its relatively nominal school fees which suited the low-income group but also of its relevance to the youth whose inclination was towards trade education.

Tagum National Trade School started its humble beginnings on August 1, 1972 using the Tagum Community gym as temporary classroom. Seventy- eight (78) first year high school students coming from the excess enrollees of Tagum Municipal High School served as core group which was handled by two teachers.

Barely a year after, Tagum National Trade School was given a school site in Apokon, Tagum, Davao (now Tagum City) where a full blast construction of school buildings followed suit. Four years after its foundation, it released its first graduate for the Four-Year Secondary Trade Curriculum. This has paved way to a start of a great tradition that is to last up to the present.

However, the implementation of DECS-TESDA joint Memorandum Circular No. 1,s.,1998 brought back Tagum National Trade School into the fold of the DECS, TESDA rulings are no longer legitimate for the secondary but only in the post secondary level.

Tagum National Trade School can boast of modern facilities too. Big concrete school buildings abound the perimeters of the school that include computer laboratory rooms, technology shops, H.E. and a cultural gym which has always been a site for big division and regional conferences.
