The largest district in Tripoli city, lies in eastern Tripoli, the district is known to be the best place to spend the summer with it's beautiful beaches.
From 2001 to 2007 Tajura was in and the capital of the Tajura Wa Al Nawahi AlArba' District.

Legend has it that the city is called "Tajura" because a long time ago, a beautiful queen used to rule Tajura and her name was Ura, and she had a jeweled crown, which was called a taj in Arabic
. One day, this queen lost her taj, and she ordered her people to look for it. Her people started to look for her taj by saying where is taj Ura, and they never found it, but the city was named after the searchers' cry: "Tajura". A less whimsical suggestion of origin is that the city was called taj because it was like a crown on the bluff above the sea.
Tajura was the center of Libya's nuclear research, with a 10 megawatt reactor, built by the Soviet Union
, which came online in 1981.
In the early 1970's there were two attempts to assassinate Gadhafi in Tajura, one of these attempts were very close. since then Gadhafi never visited Tajura formally.
In the February 17th Revolution, Tajura was the third place in Libya to ignite after Benghazi and Al- Bayda in February 15th.
Gadhafi's security forces quickly spread throughout the district and high casualties occurred. this did not stop the people from protesting. on February 25th people gathered in front of 'Mrad Agha' Mosque after performing the Friday prayer, they set to go to Martyr's Square. Unfortunately when they arrived in Soug Ejoma'a Gadhafi forces opened fire from on top of a building, killing more than 105 people. 73 were from Tajura that day was to be remembered as the Martyr's day.
after February 27th Tripoli was under Gadhafi's grip, mass people were detained and killed during that period people lived in fear, couldn't express their views and any protest was suppressed.
After more than five months of suppression and depression from the regime, the day that marked the ignition and the mission to liberate the capital, in 20th August after the NTC chairman 'Mustfa Abd E-Jlil' announced a speech and that was a sign for the people to ignite inside the capital to start the mission. just thirty minutes after the speech people in the streets of Tajura started chanting slogans against Gadhafi, and suddenly all the districts in Tripoli ignited and they all got out in the streets shouting against Gadhafi's regime.
Tajura the first District to ignite and the first to be fully under control, after that Sog Ejoma'a and Fashloum were also liberated. not much casualties occurred in Tajura, but a lot of casualties in Sog ejoma'a and Ben Ashur. Checkpoints were everywhere in the city in the first few days and then everything was fully under control and normal.
