Finally, Antonis Mantzevelakis brought him to Panathinaikos, via the Cypriot APOEL. Takis Loukanidis made his debut on the 28th of March 1962 at the game with ΑΕΚ (score: 2-3), while on the following game period he achieved his first goal with PAO. It was on the first of April and PAO beat Proodeftiki with 5-0.
He was renowned for his ability to play in many different positions and therefore considered as the most complete Greek football player ever.
