The Soviet Air Defence Forces (PVO) had a presence at this airfield with 518 IAP (518th Interceptor Aviation Regiment) flying Tupolev Tu-128 from 1966 onward. It received MiG-31 aircraft during the 1980s . This regiment was disbanded in 1998.
