Tarick Salmaci is a boxer of Lebanese
decent. Born and raised in Detroit, Mi. Began his boxing career at age of 8. Had phenomenal amateur career with record of 136-12. Olympic Trials finalist. Raised And learned to fight at the Kronk gym in Detroit. Tarick engaged in many gym wars as an amateur at the Kronk gym. Sparring with the likes of Tommy Hearns, Gerald McClennan, James Toney, Oba Carr, Mark Breland, etc... All while still an amateur. 6 time State champion, 4 time Midwest champion, and 3 time US champion... Considered one of the best amateur fighters to ever come out of the Kronk gym. Turned professional after Olympic Trials. Was managed by Jackie Kallen at beginning of pro career. Was managed and trained by Emanuel Steward in the later part of his career.
Super Middleweight Championship from March 1997, and rose through the rankings being rated #4 in the world by the WBO and 6th by the WBC. Salmaci signed a contract to fight for the world championship against world champion Joe Calzaghe. The fight was canceled due injury sustained by Calzaghe in training. "The Contender" season one came calling for Salmaci. Salmaci was voted back as a fan favorite to fight in the finale of the show. The finale took place at Caesars Palace
