Tariq Pervez a Pakistan

from 2005 till the end of 2008. After his retirement, he planned to engage in counter-terrorism efforts and might join a think-tank.
Recently, he got appointed as the National Coordinator of Counter Terrorism Authority. The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA) function is to coordinate counter terrorism efforts between the three major agencies of Pakistan: FIA, ISI and IB. Currently, he is facing bureaucratic hurdles in getting the NCTA law draft passed from the Ministry of Interior and the Law Ministry, and may even resign due to these ongoing hurdles.
He completed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies from Government College University
. Later he completed his MSc in Criminology from Cardiff University
and returned to Pakistan to serve the country.
During his tenure as head of CID Punjab he played a major role in eliminating the sectarian network in Punjab in 1990s.
During his FIA career, Tariq Pervez has to his credit resolving several terrorist attacks including suicide bombings after this scourge struck Pakistan in the wake of the 9/11 episode. He always enjoyed good reputation as far as his integrity was concerned.
Under his stewardship, the terrorists were traced who had tried to assassinate former President Pervez Musharraf
, and who were involved in the Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing
and resorted to many other high-profile bombings in the ongoing wave of terrorism. Moreover, he had prepared a useful book of suspected terrorists.
In 2004, he was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz
by the Government of Pakistan for his efforts in counter-terrorism.
On 20 August 2007, Pervez was threatened with jail over the disappearance of a Pakistani man, Hafiz Abdul Basit
, who was released later.
He is duly been mentioned in the national dailies in DAWN, The News, Daily Times regularly and also in the foreign media such as the New York Times, TIME Magazine and also in the renowned CTC Sentinel at West Point.
