Tavricheskaya Art School is a secondary art school of the Leningrad. From 1919 to 1961, was located in the building at Tavricheskaya street, 35. This has the informal name of art school, which firmly established him. In the 1930–1950 years Tavricheskaya Art School played an important role in the preparation of Leningrad artists and the formation of the Leningrad school of painting. History

The History of the Tavricheskaya Art School dates back to 1839, when in the building of Saint Petersburg Customs was founded Drawing School for free visit. In 1858 Drawing School was transferred to the Society for Promotion of Arts. In 1878 the Drawing School moved on Bolshaya Morskaya Street, 38.  in July 1918 by the People's Commissar of Education Anatoli Lunacharsky initiative Art School resumes as free "Courses of Drawing" located at Liteyny Prospect. At the end of 1918, courses are converted to "Art School and Workshop". In July 1919 the school moved to the Tavricheskaya street, 35, which gave the school later unofficially called "Tavricheskaya Art School". This Art School will be located until 1961.

During these years Tavricheskaya Art School became the leading state art school of Leningrad. They were prepared hundreds of graduates by different specialties. Its official name changed several times: "Art and Industrial College", "Art and Pedagogical College", "The Leningrad Art School".

A special role in establishing Tavricheskaya Art School in the years 1930-1950 is owned by its young director Jan Konstantinovich Shablovsky. During these years, college graduates in the future known artists Alexander Semionov

In 1943, after breaking through the enemy blockade Tavricheskaya Art School became the first art schools of Leningrad resumed its work. In 1943-1944, there were engaged in and students of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, remained in the besieged city. Among them - the future famous painters Yuri Tulin, Nina Veselova, and others.

In 1961 Tavricheskaya Art School moved to a mansion on the Proletarian Dictatorship street, 5. In 1968 the Supreme Soviet of the USSR awarded the Leningrad Art School of the name of the noted soviet artist and teacher Vladimir Alexandrovich Serov, President of USSR Academy of Arts, who headed several years the State Qualification Commission.

In 1989 the school was relocated to a new building at Grazhdansky Prospekt, 88, and in 1992 became known as the Saint Petersburg Art School named after Nicholas Roerich. Training takes place at the departments of painting, sculpture, design and restoration. Methods of preparing the restorers became the basis for all artistic establishments of Russian Federation.
