Taz-Mania (video game)
Encyclopedia
Taz Mania is a video game developed by Recreational Brainware and manufactured by Sega
for the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992. Similar but alternative variations of the game were also developed by NuFX
for the Sega Game Gear
and by Sega itself for the Sega Master System
.
Recreational Brainware was made up of two programmers - Burt Sloane and Jonathan Miller and was based in San Francisco. The Mega Drive/Genesis game was designed by Recreational Brainware in conjunction with Sega of America producer, Scott Berfield, who also assisted in the production of the Illinois based NuFX Game Gear game while the Master System game was developed and produced in Japan. A key feature of the Mega Drive/Genesis game was its score created by Mark Steven Miller and Jim Hedges - one of the first to use tagged music to react to the player's actions. It is based on the Taz-Mania
cartoon.
A semi-sequel to this game in design/concept but unrelated to the Taz-Mania cartoon was released by Sega for the same platforms in 1994/1996 by the name Taz in Escape from Mars. Other different Taz-Mania games were made by Sunsoft for the SNES
and Game Boy
.

Story
The plot for the game is a twist on the usual "Save the world" storyline for many platform games. One evening, Taz's father is telling an intriguing tale: once there were huge seabirds that laid eggs that could feed a family of Tazmanian devils for a year. There are legends that somewhere on Tazmania there is a Lost Valley, where the giant birds still nest. Taz becomes fascinated by the prospect of the potentially large omelet and leaves in search of one of those eggs. The player must direct Taz through 16 stages in search of the Lost Valley and its Giant Bird.Items / Objects
