, TADNSW began the Freedom Wheels Program, which has provided over 600 modified bikes to kids with disabilities.
Under the Freedom Wheels Program, TAD began supplying modified bikes to disabled kids in the 1990s. Since the inception of Freedom Wheels the program, TAD has helped over 600 kids with disabilities to ride with bikes tailored for their needs.
The bikes are modified by therapists, engineers and volunteers at TADNSW. Each bike is modified in accordance with the child’s age, height, weight, type of disability and physical and cognitive abilities.
The types of modifications include training wheels, postural supports, footcups, gloves and handlebars.
Through his sponsorship with Amway, cricketer Adam Gilchrist
was challenged to raise money for the Freedom Wheels program by hitting 25 sixes during the 2009 season of the Indian Premier League. He finished with 29 sixes in total and raised $20,000.
