was first introduced in 1974, when a new organization
called Radio Television Afghanistan
(government
-owned) founded two channels: RTA
and Afghanistan National Television
. After the completion of feasibility study under grant aid from the Government of Japan
, construction work of the studio and transmitter buildings started and were finished by the year 1357 (1978 CE). The centres were officially started in operation in August 1978.
During the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
period (Taliban rule) between 1996 and 2001, TV was banned by the Talib government.
When the Taliban lost power in 2001, television was re-introduced. The two channels were re-introduced in 2002. The headquarters
