Telford borough was incorporated in 1886 in Bucks County. A decade later, West Telford borough was incorporated in Montgomery County in 1897. In 1936 a state law—which prohibited the boundaries of a borough from extending into another county—was changed and the two boroughs merged to form a single Borough of Telford.

Telford is also the via point location for CSX out of Lansdale and East Penn Railroad

In the borough the population was spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.5 males.
