Thaddeus Mason Pope is an American
bioethcist and law professor at Widener University
. Pope is a leading authority of medical futility and the author of numerous articles on articles on law and medicine, including: more than nearly twenty law review and bar journal articles and over 25 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Pope is co-chair of the Law Affinity Group of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH). He sits on the board of the Delaware End-of-Life Coalition (DEOLC). In 2008, Pope testified before the President's Council on Bioethics. In 2009, he submitted an amicus brief to the New Jersey Appellate Division on behalf of the plaintiff/appellee in Betancourt v. Trinitas Hospital.
Pope holds a J.D. and Ph.D. in philosophy & bioethics from Georgetown University
. He earned his B.A. with departmental honors in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining Widener University in 2007, Pope taught at the University of Memphis
(2005-2007) and served as an attorney at the law firm of Arnold & Porter LLP (1997-1999 & 2000-2005). He clerked for the Honorable John L. Coffey on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (1999-2000).
