Since 1985, the honors have been presented on February 24, "National Artist Day" in Thailand. The date was chosen because it is the birth date of Buddha Loetla Nabhalai

, an accomplished musician, photographer and painter, was named "Supreme Artist."
National Artists receive a monthly salary of 12,000 baht
as well as health benefits, 15,000 baht towards funeral expenses and 120,000 baht for a memorial biography.
