The Brooks is a shopping centre in Winchester
, Hampshire
, England. It was opened in the early 1990s and remains the only indoor shopping centre in Winchester. The city centre development was constructed to a very Postmodern design and the centre was criticised from the beginning for being 'spartan' and not a proper indoor shopping centre. Unlike most other shopping centres at the time, which were fully enclosed, heated and had tiled floors, The Brooks had a pavement-style stone floor throughout and while it had a glazed roof, there were no doors, allowing the elements to enter the centre.
The Brooks Centre has a car park beneath the shopping malls, which themselves are laid out across two levels. Anchor stores included:
